Following increasing concern with safety and runway incursions the FAA issues a Broad Agency Announcement inviting proposals for new technologies by which to reduce Runway Incursions.

October 2000

 
FAA receives 93 submissions to the Broad Agency Announcement with Ground Marker one of six awarded contracts for prototype manufacture and demonstration.

August 2001

 
'Proof of Concept' successfully demonstrated to FAA officials and other interested parties at Bournemouth International Airport, UK.

November 2001

 
First US evaluation at the FAA's William J Hughes Technical Center, Atlantic City, NJ. Excellent review from independent technical authority.
